We have planned out a new 2,000 Liter Aquaponics system that will consist of;

  • 2x 1,000L IBCs for Fish Tanks
  • 4x 300L Grow Beds
  • 2x 300L Floating Raft Beds

The total cost of the system is estimated to be around $2,500 AUD.

Our system will be clad with Plywood that will be painted with external UV resistant paint to prevent algae growth.
We will also be filling the air voids around the IBC parts with an expanding foam to provide insulation for cooler/warmer times.

In this system we will be using Jade Perch as they are the best all rounder fish for fast growing and ease of management.
The system will hold 100 fish in total, 50 per tank.
For the size of the system, this should be sufficient.

We will be running 2 floating raft beds or also known as deep water culture beds that we will use for our main salad greens.
These would be Lettuce, Baby Spinach, Rocket (Arugula) and possibly some other light weight greens.
The remaining 4 beds will be used for standard fruit and veg which we will rundown at another stage - probably in the forums.

This whole process will be documented by video and posted to YouTube and linked here on the forums.

We will run a per video tally of what the project has cost in terms of our hours used to create and the cost of materials.
At the end, we will provide a list of what we used, where we sourced it and what it cost.

We will also run a month to month rundown of what it costs to run the 2K Liter system and what costs it saves us.

As always, if you have any questions, then leave them in our forums.
